Women’s History Month Spotlight: Black Letter Coffee + Café
The saying “When one door closes, another door opens” rang true for the Haskin family in 2022 when they purchased the space that would become Black Letter Coffee + Café. After Hurricane Ian forced a temporary closure, they saw an opportunity to reimagine the space – changing the name, menu, and decor to better reflect their vision of a true coffee shop –aligning it with the atmosphere they’ve cultivated at their other coffee shop and roastery in Wisconsin, 3 Arrows Coffee Shop.
Family-run and fueled by passion, this 600-square-foot “walk-thru” café, located on the north side of The Village Shops in suite 506, proves that small can be mighty and they achieve that with all hands on deck. Their oldest son, Tyler, is Heidi’s partner in Black Letter Coffee + Café. Heidi’s husband, John leads the way as the Manager, while their son Seth serves as the General Manager, and Jeremiah helps manage by contributing his own unique touch to the day-to-day operations.
When asked what motivated them to run the café, Heidi shared “Our motivation was simple: we wanted to create a space where great coffee meets great people. We’ve always believed coffee is more than just a drink—it’s an experience that brings people together”.
From sourcing green beans directly from farmers to roasting in small batches, every cup is crafted with care. Whether it’s serving a morning pick-me-up or fostering connections, they’re brewing more than coffee, they’re brewing community.
Have you tried their signature blend yet? If not, what are you waiting for?
